About the Journal

‘Vagdhara: A Multilingual and Multidisciplinary Peer-Reviewed Quarterly Research Journal’
A New Chapter in Multilingual Research Discourse
The diversity, rich traditions, and intellectual depth of Indian literature and languages hold a unique place within the global linguistic landscape. Literary languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Odia, and Santali are not merely living symbols of our cultural heritage; the folk experiences, collective memories, and sensibilities embedded within them illuminate the multifaceted structure of Indian society. The launch of the journal ‘Vagdhara’ (October 2025) is a modest endeavour to provide a shared platform for this literary and intellectual pluralism and linguistic richness. It is a quarterly, peer-reviewed, multilingual online research journal, aimed at fostering rigorous academic discourse on diverse dimensions of language, literature, society, culture, and thought—from both Indian and global perspectives.
In the contemporary academic landscape, research is often dominated by global languages like English. Many talented scholars, possessing original insights and a keen research vision, find themselves unable to reach prestigious print journals due to economic or technical constraints. Consequently, their ideas and discoveries remain confined to a limited sphere. ‘Vagdhara’ seeks to serve as a platform that offers such researchers an accessible, transparent, and equitable opportunity. It will not be restricted to the Hindi language alone; rather, it will publish research articles in languages including Marathi, Odia, Santali, Bengali, and Tamil. In doing so, the journal aspires to establish a new tradition of dialogue, exchange, and coexistence among Indian languages.
The term ‘Vagdhara’ itself is deeply meaningful: ‘Vag’ signifies speech or the spoken word, while ‘Dhara’ denotes a flow—together, they represent a continuous stream of ideas, experiences, and expressions. The very name of this journal signifies its purpose: to create a flow that transcends linguistic boundaries—a space where the currents of knowledge, ideas, and creativity can circulate without hindrance.
The primary objective of ‘Vagdhara’ is to foster a democratic form of research and creativity—one not dominated by any single language or geographical region, but rather one where the distinct voices of various major languages can be heard. In this sense, the journal will serve as a ‘bridge of ideas,’ striving to connect regional and global intellectual traditions.
Editorial and Review Board
The editorial policy of ‘Vagdhara’ is rooted in transparency and quality. The journal’s editorial board comprises subject-matter experts in the languages and literatures of Hindi, Marathi, Odia, and Santali. The editorial structure is committed to maintaining intellectual impartiality and diversity. Furthermore, a robust Reviewer Committee, consisting of experts in the relevant fields, has been established. This committee evaluates each article based on its quality, relevance, and originality before recommending it for publication. This process not only ensures the quality of research but also fosters the intellectual enrichment of the researchers themselves.
Moving Toward Online Publication
In this era of technological advancement, digital media has made the dissemination of knowledge more accessible than ever before. The online format of ‘Vagdhara’ demonstrates that the journal is well-attuned to the needs of the times. Through online publication, the journal will be able to reach a wider audience of readers and researchers. This format is also highly cost-effective, as it eliminates both printing expenses and the complexities of physical distribution. Moreover, it is environmentally responsible, representing a step toward paperless publishing.
‘Vagdhara’ is more than just an academic platform; it is a symbol of social commitment. It remains sensitive to the needs of researchers who, due to economic or institutional constraints, might otherwise struggle to present their ideas on a broader stage. The journal strives to ensure that researchers from every language, social group, and region are afforded equal opportunities.
The journal also operates on the belief that true knowledge does not emerge from a single center, but rather from the convergence of diverse experiences and perspectives. Consequently, ‘Vagdhara’ welcomes research articles that are not only profound in their subject matter but also deeply engaged with social consciousness, cultural heritage, contemporary issues, and human values. Inspiration and Vision
The concept behind ‘Vagdhara’ did not arise from institutional pressure or commercial ambition, but rather from a spirit of dialogue and partnership. During a conversation among a group of friends passionate about research, the idea emerged: why not launch a journal that gives equal importance to research articles across diverse literary languages? This idea gradually took shape, eventually manifesting as ‘Vagdhara.’
Future Direction
Moving forward, ‘Vagdhara’ will not only publish research articles but will also feature diverse sections such as book reviews, linguistic discourse, cultural studies, and comparative research. We envision ‘Vagdhara’ as more than just an academic initiative; it is intended to serve as an exemplary model for dialogue, collaboration, and coordination among Indian languages and literatures. It seeks to provide a platform for voices that have long remained on the margins and to give expression to ideas that have existed outside of established institutional frameworks. In the future, this journal will play a significant role in positioning India’s multilingual literary tradition within a new global perspective. We hope that the stream of ‘Vagdhara’ will continue to flow—carrying with it new ideas, new directions, and new possibilities—and we look forward to the support of all those who share a passion for research.
‘Vagdhara’ is an open-access journal, and we do not charge any APC (Article Processing Charge).
